2018 Alberta Institute of Agrologists AGM and Conference
The Annual AIA Conference in Banff is a technical, science based forum that brings current and future oriented information about agriculture, environment and related policies to our professional members. The 2018 conference will address the theme of “Governments and People”. The conference will focus on three components around agriculture and the environment portfolios related to governments:
- Key initiatives discussed and offered at the 2015 federal and provincial elections
- What has been done since the election
- What could still be considered in the years ahead
There will be two plenary sessions on April 4. The morning session will start with a “green paper” that is commissioned by AIA around the theme of the conference. This green paper is written by leading academic researchers. The 2018 paper will be presented by Dr. Ian Urquhart, a political science professor from the University of Alberta. He will address the above themes and will be assisted in this presentation by Dr. Allan Tupper, University of British Columbia.
The deputy ministers of Alberta Environment and Agriculture & Forestry will also present at the morning plenary session. A journalist perspective will be offered by Graham Thomson from the Edmonton Journal. Graham covers the Alberta legislature scene for the Journal.
The afternoon plenary session will bring a response from a key lawyer in surface rights, a well-known and connected rancher, the oil industry, academia and the Pembina Institute.
Conference registration will open in October 2017. Speakers and the agenda will be updated on the website as they are confirmed.
