Webinar Series on the Future of Agri-Food Research and Innovation

We invite you to join us for the fifth webinar in a series dedicated to the future of agri-food research and innovation.

Trust in Science: Agri-food innovation in the face of decreasing public confidence

Public trust is essential for ensuring the continued success and growth of the agri-food sector. Since the industrial revolution, advances in science and technology have fundamentally altered our relationship with agriculture and food. Most consumers are distanced or unaware of the processes in which food is taken from farm to table, creating a climate of uncertainty and making space for the spread of misinformation. In recent years, the federal government has worked to address this issue, notably by establishing policies on traceability and investing in organizations like the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity to build trust and transparency in the food system.

Join us on August 26 from 1:00-2:30 pm EDT as we discuss factors contributing to the issue, implications for agri-food research and innovation, and recommendations to build public trust.

Panelists:

  • Dr. Jill E. Hobbs, Professor, Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics, College of Agriculture and Bioresources at the University of Saskatchewan
  • Mr. John Jamieson, President and CEO at The Canadian Centre for Food Integrity
  • Dr. Jeff Kinder, Executive Director, Science and Innovation at the Institute on Governance
